Vibration problems in manufacturing industry

One of our customers installed a new manufacturing machine in a machine-dense production environment. During start-up of the new machine, vibrations were found to be so strong that they propagated to the neighbouring machines.

The vibrations also caused the factory building to shake and there was an obvious risk of damage to the new machine. For our customer, the problem became acute as they needed to get the new machine into production as quickly as possible.

Challenge

At the time of delivery, the new machine was installed with standard machine feet in a rubber-metal combination design. The design of the feet caused vibrations to spread, with the risk of serious injury.

For our client, this risk was not acceptable and the problems caused by the vibrations in the building and in the surrounding production environment were also taken seriously.

On site at the customer's premises, we were able to establish how the machine was installed and the problems that arose. We immediately documented all the necessary operating parameters and practical conditions for a modified installation and then analysed alternatives together with our partner. Our analysis and dialogue with Bilz experts led to a proposed solution that would significantly reduce vibration. We were then able to immediately present the solution to the customer along with a quote.

The German company is a market leader in the field of anti-vibration solutions and has more than 50 years of experience. Ulinco is the general agent for Bilz Vibration Technology in Sweden and Norway. Our analysis and dialogue with Bilz experts led to a proposed solution that would significantly reduce vibration. We were then able to immediately present the solution to the customer together with a quote.

Our proposal

The proposed solution involved switching to the Bilz FAEBI® rubber air damper, which has a unique design with an inflatable air cushion inside a casing. The bell-shaped rubber mould of the damper is made of high-quality elastomers with a reinforced sidewall. Compared to the rubber-metal machine feet that caused the vibration problems, FAEBI® is a significantly more effective anti-vibration solution, eliminating vibrations by up to 80 %.

Outcome

Just four days after our first visit to the customer, the new FAEBI® dampers were delivered and installed by the customer. After the change to FAEBI®, the machine has been in full operation and the vibrations have been drastically reduced, which means that the customer now has a significantly better working environment without any risk of vibration-related damage to the new machine or the building. The customer has reported that they are more than satisfied with the results. They are also impressed with how quickly it went from the first call with us at Ulinco to the rubber air dampers being in place and installed.
