NR - Natural rubber

Natural rubber (NR) is a polymer of isoprene extracted from the rubber tree Hevea brasiliensis, commonly known as Latex. The rubber is characterised by high elasticity, good tensile strength and excellent abrasion resistance.

Natural rubber has limited resistance to oil, heat and ozone, which can lead to degradation over time. To improve resistance to these factors, chemical additives and treatments are often used.

It is mainly used in the manufacture of tyres, gaskets, hoses and rubber bands. It is also common in some medical products and sports equipment, where its unique properties are particularly beneficial. Find out more about how natural rubber is made here.
